Best VPN for streaming (2025)
Streaming needs three things from a VPN: it has to get past the service’s VPN blocks, hold enough speed for 4K, and run on the TV you actually watch on. This ranking weights those three over everything else.

What matters for this job
Longer read: How streaming with a VPN works
- Unblocking
- Services block known VPN addresses. Providers that rotate IPs and run streaming-specific servers keep working longer.
- Speed loss
- 4K needs about 25 Mbps sustained. A VPN that loses 40% of a modest connection can drop you below that.
- TV apps
- A native Fire TV, Android TV or Apple TV app is far easier than configuring a router.
Questions
Common questions
Is it legal to stream with a VPN?
Using a VPN is legal in most countries. Watching another region’s catalog can break a streaming service’s terms of use, which can get an account restricted, but it is not a crime in most places.
Why does Netflix still show an error with my VPN?
The server’s IP address has been flagged. Switch to another server in the same country, clear the app’s cache, or use the provider’s streaming-labelled servers.
