Privacy and analytics

Updated October 5, 2026. PickMyVPN uses PostHog to understand which guides help readers and whether our comparison and recommendation tools are useful.

Our analytics use no cookies, local storage, session storage, person profiles, session recordings, or browser fingerprinting. A random identifier held in memory groups activity during this tab’s visit. Internal navigation keeps that visit together; reloading, opening another tab, or returning after 30 minutes of inactivity starts a new visit.

We collect page paths and canonical addresses, page category and language, referring website and page path, public campaign source/medium/name labels, broad browser/operating system/device category, page duration and maximum scroll depth, site version, and loading and interaction performance. We measure questionnaire starts, successful recommendations and clicks to VPN providers. An outbound click shows interest; it does not prove a purchase.

We remove query strings and fragments from collected addresses. We do not collect search terms, advertising click identifiers, questionnaire answers, chat text, form values, raw user agents, or page content in analytics. We do not forward your IP address to PostHog or enable location enrichment. Cloudflare serves the site and processes network requests, including IP addresses, as part of hosting.

Events travel through this website to PostHog’s US service. We honor Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track by suppressing analytics. Analytics may be incomplete when a browser blocks requests or closes before delivery. Google Analytics/Firebase Analytics collection has been removed.

The recommendation bar stores your chosen VPN in your browser’s local storage so it can remain available on later visits. This functional preference is separate from analytics, is never read for tracking, and can be cleared using the bar’s dismiss button or your browser settings.

The optional VPN advisor sends messages to our server and Google’s Gemini service to provide replies. Chat messages are not included in analytics. Avoid submitting personal or sensitive information in chat.

Provider links may be affiliate links. The destination website applies its own privacy policy and may use cookies or measure purchases. We cannot confirm a provider purchase from an outbound click.
